The Problem
A large Midwestern convention center hosting 20 to 30 major events annually faced the challenge of meeting the unique infrastructure requirements of each of their clients while maintaining a high level of network security. Flexibility historically had been achieved by maintaining a simple infrastructure and augmenting with specific services and equipment as required to meet specific needs for each event.
Although the immediate need of flexibility was being achieved, the original system lacked predictable and reliable security. Several events, in fact, had been stifled by worm-and-virus-infested workstations and notebooks tied to the open network infrastructure.
Demands on the infrastructure varied widely. Although typical connections to the floor consisted of POTS lines, DSL and 10/100 Mb Ethernet connections, the required locations changed for each meeting. WiFi access points served the facility in the lobby areas and several meeting rooms.
To attract and to safely serve larger and more frequent events, the CFO and the IT staff sought both a short-term fix and a long-term strategic plan for a sophisticated, scalable solution.
The Solution
With extensive network assessment experience, the NetLabs/Fusiva engineers quickly developed a comprehensive and detailed appraisal of the existing infrastructure, then identified the specific needs and opportunities for improvement and next developed a tailored solution to address each specific need.
Because the NetLabs/Fusiva engineers weren't limited to a single vendor solution, the team could focus on achieving the best business impact for each network segment comprising the total solution.
Existing resources were redeployed along side open source and commercial equipment, increasing the return on investment of the existing equipment and lowering the overall cost of implementing the proposed solution.
NetLabs/Fusiva provided an innovative and carrier class solution facilitating the client's needs for flexibility and growth without compromising security.
Defining a vision for the future, NetLabs/Fusiva's proposed solution moved beyond a purely technical implementation by including business process improvements to help manage and track I.P. address space and infrastructure deployment.
The Result
In the words of the IT director, "The NetLabs engineers saved us, both from security problems we knew we had and also from surprises. Best of all, NetLabs/Fusiva did it all quickly.
